About Nursing Pads

Every breast-feeding mother wants breast-feeding to be a positive experience for her and her baby.

LANACare nursing pads have been invented and patented by Jeannette Almström. It is a unique and very beneficial product for breastfeeding made in organic soft merino wool. LANACare nursing pads provide the best conditions for successful breast-feeding. They are incredibly soft and gentle. Woollen nursing pads help to keep the breasts warm and protected against cold or wind, therefore recommended to use all year round. Natural warmth of the wool stimulates blood circulation and lactation processes, providing soothing relief in most breastfeeding problems. Even when the nursing pads are wet they still feel warm and dry due to wool ability to absorb moist. In that way LANACare nursing pads allow the skin to breath and remain dry, allowing sore nipples to heal. LANACare nursing pads contain natural lanolin, perfectly soothing sore nipples. Lanolin’s cleansing properties keep the wool fresh and hygienic. Most women need only 2 pairs for the entire nursing period – when your pads feel wet, or at least daily, let them dry on a dry heat source (as radiator) while wearing a second pair. It is recommended to use a size that covers the whole breast.

 Guidelines in sizing

(with understanding that each woman may have individual preferences)

  • Mini (9 cm - 3 1/2 in.) – recommended most often as additional inner layer for very heavy leaking - if opting for this alone, we recommend size XS.
  • X-Small (12 cm - 5 in.)- A or B cup - most comparable in size to disposables, just a tad larger.
  • Small (15 cm - 6 in.) - B-DD+ cup – most commonly recommended size - will give full coverage, yet fit inside most bras.
  • Medium (18 cm - 7 in.) - F or larger
  • Large (22 cm - 9 in.) and...
  • Oval (18 x 27 cm - 7 x 10 in.) - for women who want even more coverage

Nursing pads care

  • Washing. Wash by hand in lukewarm water with LANACare Lanolin Soap to replenish the lanolin content of the wool. Cold water, as well as hot, can shock the wool fibers, causing it to felt and shrink. Hot water also rinses away the lanolin from wool. Use just enough Lanolin soap to keep the water mildly sudsy. Move the pads gently in the water, then let them soak in the water for 5-10 minutes.
  • Rinsing. Rinse in lukewarm water. Always use lukewarm water when washing and rinsing wool. Cold water can shock the wool fibres, resulting in shrinking and felting of the wool.
  • Drying. Place or roll your pads into a towel, pressing out the excess water. Give the pads a quick, brisk shake to help them regain their form and elasticity. Lay pads to dry, preferably over a mild heat source.
  • Sterilize. When you are suffering from thrush it is important to sterilize the pads before using them. It has been shown that placing your woollen pads, directly after washing (dripping wet), in a microwave oven on high for 2 minutes removes all bacteria and yeast spores. Always make sure your pads are wet when placed in either a microwave – they will otherwise burn & turn brown!
